This play takes us back to Eatonville, Florida, where Zora's mother's determination to raise her daughter as a strong, independent woman is in stark contrast to the strict expectations of her Ministerial father. With her fierce intellect and determination, Zora gains admission to Howard University and quickly garners recognition and awards for her colorful stories of tall tales from home.
As she journeys to the concrete jungle of New York City, Zora's talent and creativity continue to flourish, and she becomes a leading figure of the Harlem Renaissance. Through poetry, songs, and folktales, Zora! Let The People Sing! celebrates her indomitable spirit, highlighting her enduring legacy as an intellectual and spiritual foremother to generations of African-American women and writers around the world.
